About waxing at Izba Spa

Izba Spa uses hot wax for intimate and underarm work because it shrink-wraps the hair rather than gripping the skin, which means less pulling and noticeably less redness on the areas that matter most. Strip wax is used on larger areas such as legs, arms and back where speed matters and skin is less reactive. Both remove hair from the root, so regrowth comes back finer and takes three to four weeks.

Timings are honest: an underarm is ten minutes, a full leg around 30, a Hollywood around 30 with prep. Hair needs to be about a quarter of an inch — roughly two weeks of growth — for the wax to grip. If you have been shaving, wait two weeks before your first appointment and you will get a far better result.

Who it suits

Clients who want smooth skin for three to four weeks at a time, anyone tired of daily shaving and the ingrown hairs that come with it, and holiday and wedding bookings planned two to three days in advance.

What to expect after

Skin can stay pink for a few hours. Skip hot baths, saunas, swimming, sunbeds and heavy exercise for 24 hours, and start gentle exfoliation after 48 hours to keep ingrown hairs away.

A Hollywood wax is £38 at Izba Spa, and a Brazilian is £35. Both are done with hot wax and take around 30 minutes.

How long does hair need to be for waxing?

About a quarter of an inch, or roughly two weeks of growth. Shorter than that and the wax cannot grip the hair reliably.

Does waxing hurt less than it used to?

Hot wax on intimate areas is considerably more comfortable than strip wax, and regular clients report each appointment being easier as hair grows back finer.
